Now in its tenth year, in 2016 the Rome Fiction Fest once again tracks the evolution of television series at a time of enormous change.

The main change concerns content. The most recent television series seem to be chasing down the reality of an imagination that is displaying a thirst for novelty the world over. Sometimes that means zeroing in on the changes underway in people's lives and ideas, in their way of sharing their time with others, in their orientation towards the future. At other times it means second-guessing the trends, introducing subjects, situations and ideas that herald brand-new scenarios.

Italian TV series are no longer turned inward onto themselves, if they ever really were. They're actually windows on a world that surprises us daily with its inventiveness, as a string of recent successes attest. And the Fiction Fest reflects this new state of affairs, as it shows how our national output measures up against the many other countries that represent our goals and our present challenge.

In short, our tenth anniversary is not so much a celebration as a sign of things to come, as we set sail for those new destinations that television audiences around the world experience every day, becoming more and more aware of the human adventure they themselves are shaping through their own choices, their tastes and changing needs and likings. That's television. And at the same time, that's reality.
